Olivia Krivitsky- Blog Post 2

Summary

Hi, all! I hope that you have had a nice summer thus far! I wanted to use this second blog post to discuss the exciting progress and breakthroughs I have made since my previous blog post. Over past few weeks, I have come to further appreciate and recognize the importance of the interdisciplinary in informing my work and biomaterial design process. Working on the market research component as well as investigating the psychology behind the sustainability sector and its place as an emerging field relatively recently have been crucial in making me recognize how without this shift in mentality and creation of this new and innovative space, the development of my project, specifically the creation of a chitin biomaterial, would not be possible. After speaking with one of my mentors, I have come to realize that my project, which is very heavily science focused, also has great potential in highlighting and acting as a pioneer in a relatively untapped space.
For the past couple weeks, I have been continuing my ongoing work of honing and further developing my protocol and methodology for the creation of my chitin biomaterial. This process has been very challenging and has involved a plethora of biochemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemical engineering. However, I am really excited to have been able to develop this protocol and further conduct expand my project.
