Conflict Resolution in Ethiopia: Role of Peacebuilding Institutions in the 2022 Pretoria Peace Agreement

Presentation Video

This research project looks at the trajectory of the Ethiopian conflict as far back as the time of Emperor Menelik who fought the Italian invasion in 1889 to the 2022 Ethiopia-Tigray conflict. Throughout their history, Ethiopians ended all their conflicts with military victory over the other without addressing the genesis of the conflict. The war that sparked off in the year 2000 by Tigran Peoples Liberation Front, was escalated when the Ethiopian Federal Government responded, but a peace agreement was reached two years after. This project explores whether there is good will to move forward by either party through the implementation of the recent ceasefire and peace process.
