The Planet Earth

The most beautiful planet in the universe
The only place where human life breathes
And yet, this planet Earth is turning hot red
Not the sun to blame, but man’s ignorance

Man has nowhere else to shelter life
The only place to live and only here
So we have to stop burning the earth
Before it melts and perishes to its dying end

Conrado RestrepoConrado Restrepo is fifty-eight years old. A native of Medellín, Colombia, he arrived in New York in 2000. He writes, “When I lived in Colombia, I worked in HVAC systems. Here, I work hard restoring houses. I wrote about the planet Earth because I think life on this planet is at risk. I want people to know this and do something to stop the danger. I’m doing my small part.” At the Queens Public Library’s Elmhurst Adult Learning Center, he studies with teacher Jovito de la Paz. Michelle Johnston is the center’s manager.
