Before We Become Ancestors
Before We Become Ancestors is an anthology of writing and artwork by Nigerian femmes. This project started as a way to explore the underground arts scene in Lagos. But after a summer full of news stories about violence against Nigerian women, this anthology became a place to showcase the voices that are often silenced. Through interviews and literature, I was able to explore questions about authenticity, culture, and women’s rights in this anthology. The artists featured in this anthology are Nigerian women and queer folks both on the continent and of the Nigerian diaspora.
