Learning to Succeed

I am telling you that when I arrived here
I was in doubt.
Now you can understand what I am talking about.
Seeing your face makes me explain,
the way of learning is not a game.
Gladys says, “Commas come first,
and periods come after.”
David has a smile. I can’t explain.
Gladys says, “It will be all right.”
Donna is teaching us how to log in
and out of the computers.
Mistakes will happen, please don’t
give up the fight.
Veronica is in her little space.
Teaching us about citizenship, at her pace.
If you are willing to come over and see her.
It’s never too late to learn something.

Author portraitWendell Williams studies at the Brooklyn Public Library’s Eastern Parkway Adult Learning Center, where the site manager is Donna Alleyne. He writes, “I come from Barbados. I have seven children and 16 grandchildren. I enjoy cooking and baking macaroni pies. My goal is to get my High School Equivalency degree and citizenship. Most importantly, I am 64 years old and know that it is never too late to learn.” Wendell Williams was also published in LR16.
