Velma Betz grew up in Texas, raised by her aunt and uncle. She graduated from high school in 1984. She is now a student at East Village Access in New York City. Her goal is to become a peer specialist. According to her teacher, Mindy Levokove, Velma Betz has “a fighting spirit and a big heart.”
